About George Town Heritage Celebrations 2026
George Town Heritage Celebrations 2026 will mark 18 years since George Town’s UNESCO World Heritage inscription on 7 July 2008. The four-day programme will run from 4 to 7 July under the theme “Kongsi Cerita!” (Share Stories!).
Organised by George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI), the celebrations will bring 48 community partners together to share stories and traditions through 33 cultural workshops and eight interactive dance performances. The street festival will open on 4 July.
More than 10 historic buildings will open to the public for free from 5 to 7 July. A 5km family-friendly heritage walk will start at Penang Town Hall at 7am on 5 July.
7 July, George Town World Heritage City Day, is a Penang public holiday.
