100+ artistists from everywhere in the world and Malaysia, in 30 different galleries, studios and other art venues across Penang are participating from 14-16 June 2019. There are multiple solo and group exhibitions, workshops, talks and other events arranged by artists and for artists. Most activities are free of charge.
Open Studios Penang has been entirely organised by artists for artists. Participants include leading Vietnamese artists Ha Manh Thang and Pham Huy Thong, established Malaysian artists such as Dato’ Chong Hon Fatt and Ch’ng Kiah Kiean, and dozens of other well-known or up-and-coming artists. The art on display will include painting, sketching, colour pencil, sculpture, collage, jewellery and photography. Venues range from well-known Penang art galleries to cafes and the artists’ own studios. In addition to the art on display, In addition workshops have been arranged on clay elephant making, life and figure drawing, painting with fire, colour pencil art, print preparation, woodwork and more. There will be several talks, including an open discussion about life as an artist in Vietnam, a panel discussion entitled Penang Art Today and Tomorrow, and presentations on Law and Finance for artists. Attendees of Open Studios Penang can also sign up for Paint Jams, Drawing Jams, and a guided Art Trail of some of the artist studios and galleries.
