George Town Festival 2019

The theme this year is A FESTIVAL FOR EVERYONE and it is the 10th edition of GTF. This year the Festival embodies the idea of making arts accessible to all, regardless of age or background.

From traditional auditoriums to halls, shophouse walls, historic buildings, cafes and kopitiams (traditional coffee shops), a vast amount of visual art, theatre, music, dance, comedy, film, photography and more will be showcased throughout the 16 days to make sure that there is something for everyone.

The Festival will start with a miraculous night – ‘When Night Falls’, a two-day event which will bring together an eclectic array of illuminated artworks from across the globe. Areas around Esplanade where it is a waterfront location in the heart of George Town will be transformed into a glowing playground with showcases of lights and rays as well as projection mapping.

The second weekend with the theme ‘Art in the City’ will bring visitors shuttle through the diversity and transition of various arts aspects in George Town World Heritage Site. The two-day event gathers artists from near and far to organise arts-related events with the utilisation of intriguing venues, happening all at once in the city.

The grand finale of George Town Festival 2019, ‘The Extravaganza’ will cast all the artists from local and overseas in performing arts ranging from contemporary, traditional to novelty performances to form an enormous art bash that worth a universal celebration.

The weekdays on the fortnight will see various forms of thought-provoking artistic activities such as performances, film screening, workshop, sharing session, talk and more to celebrate the blossom of wondrous arts.

With such a vast array of programmes, George Town Festival 2019 is a place to see, learn and experience the transformational nature of arts, cultures and heritage in a brand new way.
